Interceptor Plus is a once a month flavored tablet used for the prevention of heartworm disease and the control of roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms in dogs.  Dogs should be tested for heartworm prior to use.

Elanco acquired Interceptor products, previously manufactured and marketed in the United States by Novartis Animal Health. During the transitional period, the manufacturer may still be listed as Novartis on product packaging.

Benefits
  • Indicated for the prevention of heartworm disease
  • Used for treatment and control of roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms in dogs
Active Ingredients

milbemycin oxime, praziquantel

Side Effects

There are very few side effects when the drug is given at the normal dose, but monitor your pet for vomiting, diarrhea, depression/lethargy, ataxia, anorexia, convulsions, weakness, and salivation.

Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.

Usage

Interceptor Plus should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian.  Administer in a manner that encourages your pet to chew the tablet, rather than swallowing it whole. For heartworm prevention, give once monthly for at least 6 months after exposure to mosquitos.

Cautions

Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children.  Treatment with fewer than 6 monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitos may not provide complete heartworm prevention.

The safety of Interceptor Plus has not been evaluated in dogs used for breeding or in lactating females.

Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. No interactions have been noted with this medication. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.

Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; diarrhea; ataxia; weakness; widespread hives and itching.
