Marie Moody never set out to build a top-rated pet food company. But starting in 1997, that's what she has done after she nursed her very sick adopted dog back to health after her veterinarian suggested she consider trying him on a homemade natural raw diet. With the new diet that featured raw, fresh meat and organic vegetables, Chewy's condition improved within days. Her other dog Stella was also thriving on the new diet.

The rapid turnaround of Chewy's health convinced Marie that wholesome, less-processed food and a lot of love can dramatically improve a pet's health.

Although Marie never envisioned becoming a pet food entrepreneur, creating healthy food for her pets took on a life of its own as she realized there weren't commercial foods available for most pet owners that would replicate what dogs and cats would eat in the wild.

Moody also understood the potential problems of raw feeding including exposing herself and pets to pathogens. Therefore, she researched ways to create safe yet minimally-processed meals without sacrificing nutritional value. 

By 2003, Moody was crafting bulk meals in her tiny Manhattan apartment and delivering orders to other like-minded folks via taxi. Demand continued to grow, and the headquarters was moved to Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and the company has been awarded as a top place to work.
