I’m not a huge music enthusiast, I will admit that. I usually stick to a certain type of music, but for this post, I branched out from my music collection and found all sorts of genres with one thing in common...dogs!
There are thousands of songs out there involving a dog, about a dog or with a metaphor using a dog (or have nothing to actually do with dogs at all). I looked into all of those ideas and compiled a list of the Best Dog Songs spanning a variety of music genres.
Side note: if you’re one of those people who thinks that country music is full of songs about pickup trucks and dogs, well, you’re wrong (at least about the dog part), there weren’t that many.
Without further ado, my list (along with the artist that sings it best) of Best Dog Songs or Songs About Dogs (or otherwise involving the word Dog):
Hound Dog (Elvis Presley)
Puppy Love (Paul Anka)
Who Let the Dogs Out (Baha Men)
I Love My Dog (Cat Stevens)
Ol’ Red (Blake Shelton)
Walking the Dog (Rufus Thomas)
Old King (Neil Young)
Me and You and a Dog Named Boo (Lobo)
Gonna Buy Me a Dog (The Monkees)
Bird Dog (The Everly Brothers)
Everything Reminds Me of My Dog (Jane Siberry)
And because I didn’t want to get yelled at for not including a “classic,” here’s a super cheesy dog song that I am counting as only partly on the list (because it isn’t a good song):
How Much Is That Doggie in the Window (millions of artists)
Now, I know there are a million songs about dogs out there, therefore I can’t add them all to the list. But, do you have a favorite dog song, or a good song that reminds you of your dog? Share it with us!
