I admit it, I am a huge Craigslist fan! Though I’ve never purchased anything from the site, I’ve had a ton of success selling items through it. Yep...two cars, an '80s ceiling fan, a dollhouse, unused software, old electronics, and most recently a duck house.
Well, it was a dog house when I had it, but it now happily keeps three ducks out of the elements. What? Well, I posted this nice composite plastic dog house on Craigslist and within four minutes I had a call from a man who told me to “consider it sold” and he would see us tomorrow. We ended up getting four or five more calls about the dog house, but this guy had the best story, so he won (actually he was first, so naturally it's his). I'd like to think the dog house was so popular because of the
incredibly well-written description and wonderful photographs, but I later figured out I
probably priced the thing too low. Oh well.
Sure enough, the man came to our house the next day to pick up his duck habitat. He quickly explained that he had three ducks and they were going to love this house. It did have a skylight, and high ceilings for a duck, so it was pretty cool. I was bummed when I realized he didn’t even bring the ducks with him to test it out. My advice, have your dog, or duck, test out a house, just to make sure he will go in it...before you shell out the money. Anyway, I really just wanted to play with the ducks and find out how ducks are as pets. Oh well, I was happy knowing that the ducks would appreciate the dog house that my dog shunned and refused to enter (once again, should've tested it out first). Turns out, it was pretty entertaining watching the man figure out how to get the thing into (eventually strapped down to) his small Honda. I hope Wynken, Blynken, and Nod (I just made their names up since I never actually met them) are enjoying their mansion, especially in this cold Colorado weather.
There really isn’t much of a point to this story, I just found it amusing. You never know what you will find or find out through a garage-sale-equivalent site like Craigslist. Now I wonder what some of the other items I have sold are being used for today!?
I suppose you could say “One dog’s shack is another pet’s palace.”

Oct 25, 2009 at 12:40 AM I had 2 pet chickens, and while their house was made by my very clever husband (it had to look like anything but a hen house as chickens aren't allowed in our city), I find it heart warming that the three ducks have someone who really cares about them. Our "girls" were as spoiled as our grandchildren or any dog we've ever had. There wasn't really any point to this story either, I just like our feathered friends.
