It's amazing what filmmakers go through to get the perfect shot when the actors are animals. It's even more amazing what animal actors are willing to put up with to participate. Case in point, these pictures of a Boston Terrier being suspended in front of a green screen for who knows how long, filming a scene for the upcoming movie, Hotel for Dogs.
On the human side, it stars Emma Roberts and Jake T. Austin. It also features Don Cheadle and Lisa Kudrow, who I can imagine turns in a funny performance as an allergic-to-dogs aunt. On the dog side, it stars an array of overachieving pooches from Birds & Animals Unlimited, a well-known movie animal training company.
The LA Times' Hollywood Backlot has a bunch of photos from behind the scenes of Hotel for Dogs, and there are some pretty interesting shots. It's obviously a bit bigger budget than many animal features, as those monster sets can tell you.
Several of the shots are of two particular dogs named Nip and Tuck (get it?), who together play a dog named "Georgia," who seem to share a particular love the camera.

Most of the shots feature what looks like lots of time spent suspended in mid-air over the Hotel for Dogs set in a dog harness, surrounded by an array of concentrating technicians.

It looks like those four green sticks are for nudging the dog's legs into position to simulate some sort of jumping scene. How they're able to coax the dog into staying in that position and keeping a bone in her mouth is anybody's guess. I sure hope both Nip and Tuck at least got to each keep that monster bone after they were done. (That is, assuming it's a real bone).
Fortunately, it looks like Hotel for Dogs employed doggy dummies as stand ins when setting up shots.
