Is it Possible to Dispel Crazy Cat Lady Stereotype?

Cats , Kittens

Lots of Cats

I have made comments in the past about how owning a multitude of cats might deem you as a "crazy cat lady." I should clarify...if you have more than like, 20 cats, in my mind, you might be a little crazy and since you have cats, you are then a crazy cat lady (or guy). If someone owned that many dogs (which is usually illegal), that person would be a crazy dog lady (or guy).

Tidy Cats, the popular kitty litter company, is running a campaign and contest to help debunk the stereotype of a "Crazy Cat Lady." They are asking for stories about how owning multiple cats enriches ones life and brings pleasure, not craziness. Prizes for the Campaign to End Cattiness, include $5,000, a year supply of kitty litter, and a webisode featuring your story.

I think it is a fun idea, but I do have a gripe (surprise!). The Tidy Cat campaign is all about owning more than one cat, but they do not mention where a line should be drawn. I'm not opposed to owning one, two, or even four cats, but there are stories in the news all the time about people owning tons of cats (like the lady with more than 200 cats), sometimes known as animal hoarders. I want to know when is it considered one cat too many? Where should the line be drawn between a happy cat-filled household and animal hoarder (dare I say "crazy cat lady" in this case)?
