Believe it or not, a woman from Minnesota didn’t think twice about kicking a fellow Target patron’s seeing-eye dog in the face. That’s right, I said seeing-eye dog, meaning the dog was guiding a blind woman.
Lolly Lijewski is a blind woman who relies on her assistance dog, Brook, to help her everywhere...being her eyes for her. On a typical trip to Target last Thursday, a not-so-typical thing happened to them. As they were entering the store, a gray-haired woman exiting decided to kick Brook in the jaw, for no apparent reason. It’s not like Lolly or Brook provoked the woman. How do I know this? Well, it was all caught on security tapes.
Because Lolly is blind, she didn’t know what had happened, she could only tell that Brook’s legs sort of buckled, but didn’t know why. Thankfully a young girl standing near Lolly told her what happened to the dog. It was then that Lolly talked to Target managers who informed the police. The police reviewed the tapes and ended up finding the kicker in the area, apparently intoxicated.
The gray-haired woman faces charges of animal cruelty and might even face greater penalties given the dog was a service dog.
Personally, I don’t care if the lady was drunk or sober, why would you ever kick a dog, let alone mess with a service dog? That is not only cruel to the animal but also to the human needing the assistance animal.
