You've been hearing more and more about dog fighting rings being brought to justice lately, hopefully meaning that the disgusting, illegal and just plain wrong act is diminishing.
Well, here's a new one. Canary Fighting.
Honestly, how sick can people get? There was a canary fighting ring busted up by the cops a couple weeks ago in Connecticut. Ok, no feathers were flying just yet, so the cops busted an “alleged” canary fighting operation.
More than 150 canaries and saffron finches were seized from a house in Shelton, Connecticut, and 19 people were arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and illegal gambling. The birds were apparently being primed for fighting (not sure what that means exactly). Oh and $8,000 in cash was found laying around too.
Maybe you thought canaries were just sweet, innocent songbirds. Wrong. Apparently canaries can be really aggressive toward each other and ferociously fight, especially during breeding season. And I suppose once they are “primed.”
Just goes to show that there are still sickos out there. It is so disturbing to think that people take part in and enjoy watching animal fighting. I don’t care if it’s small birds or mean dogs, or giraffes for that matter... it’s ridiculous!
