Why use a Dog Harness?
There are many good reasons to use a harness on your dog. First, harnesses won’t harm dogs. On a traditional collar and leash, it can be harmful to your dog’s neck, if he or she pulls a lot. Ease the strain on the neck by using a dog harness. Also, dog breeds with breathing issues should be on a harness instead of a collar and leash lead, so they don’t hurt their sensitive necks and throats.

Secondly, a dog harness can help teach puppies and adult dogs how to properly walk on a leash, without pulling or being unruly. There are training harnesses made specially to help you control your pooch on walks. Be sure the harness you buy is strong and durable, especially if you have a large dog that pulls.

For safety reasons, use a harness if you take your dog in the car. It is unsafe for you and your dog if they are walking around, jumping, and especially, sitting in your lap. It might take some getting used to, but a car safety harness is worth it. It's all about being careful and safe.

Lastly, a dog harness makes a great fashion accessory. Harnesses come in all different sizes, colors, and patterns. Some are even disguised as dog clothes to make your little pup even more adorable. The glitzy ones are usually made in smaller sizes.

A Few Things to Remember
Size Matters – You want your dog to be comfortable, so make sure you get the right size. You will want to measure your dog’s chest so you can ensure the right fit. Also, sizes for dog harnesses are often determined by a dog’s weight, so be prepared.
Wear Tags – Even though your dog might wear a harness and you think the dog cannot get away on a leash, be cautious and make sure your dog wear its I.D. tags. Remember, your dog can still comfortably wear a collar and tags with a harness on.
Be Reflective – If you plan to be out with your dog at night, find a harness with reflectors on it, so your dog is visible to cars or other people. Here is a good example.

Different Types of Dog Harnesses
It might be overwhelming to look at dog harnesses, as they often look complicated. Fear not, you can find many different kinds of dog harnesses that will suit your needs. Step-in harnesses are good if your dog can’t stand still or you are on-the-go. There are more complex harness models that require buckles and snaps and might take longer to get on the dog. Also, popular mesh harnesses and fleece harnesses are designed for specific weather conditions.
