Product Information

Help your dog beat the heat with this innovative cooling dog jacket.
  • Three-layer cooling construction
  • Light color reflects sunlight
  • Breathable mesh
  • Auto-lock buckles
Why We Love It:
The dog days of summer can get a good dog down. This evaporative cooling vest is the perfect answer for extreme heat! The Swamp Cooler Dog Cooling Vest by RuffWear uses natural evaporative cooling to keep dogs cool and comfortable for hours. This is important since dogs can't sweat except through their paws.
Not only does this cooling jacket "sweat" for your dog - the light-colored fabric reflects sunlight and acts as a natural UV protectant much like a parasol.
This dog cooling vest is made of breathable mesh and contains three layers of construction for maximum cooling effects. The top air-mesh layer generates evaporation, releasing heat. The middle layer absorbs and stores cool water while the bottom layer actually cools your dog.
Two auto-lock buckles adjust and hold at the abdomen for a custom fit. The buckles are encased in the mesh to prevent chafing.
To use, simply wet the garment and wring it out. When the jacket dries, rewet it to regain the cooling properties.

I have a one-year-old, black Doberman Pinscher. He is apprehensive about any "new" things, especially anything that touches his body. I got him a light-weight canine rain jacket (from another company), but he won't wear it (I think the Velcro to secure it on him freaks him out). So when I got this cooling vest, I thought I might have wasted money getting it. He didn't like it at first, but after about 10-15 minutes, he let me put it on him. We live in Texas, so you can imagine how awful Texas heat is on his black coat. I tried it out on him today and It worked really well, even in the hottest time of the day. After about 50 minutes of walking, running and playing, his body/back remained cool to the touch. I feel good because now I won't have to worry about him getting heat stroke. I (he) will definitely use it every day this summer when we go out. I'm glad I got this vest for him.

Have been searching for a cooling vest for my boxer/pointer mix and shepherd mix. I live in Fayetteville, NC where it is extremely hot and humid. This vest really seems to work and fits great. It has 2 side buckles that makes it easy to get on and off and there is no hassle at all. It only requires water (no freezing) which makes it great for long day adventures. My boxer/pointer is 72 pounds (tall, slender). I purchased the large, which is a little big but is doable. I also purchased the medium for my shepherd mix (a true mutt) (70 pounds, short, stocky, barrel chested). The medium fits my boxer/pointer better in the chest but the large is longer. The large is too long for my shepherd but fits better around her chest.

Fits well, works great, arrived just in time for Mn swamp weather. Couldn't be happier. Tried several other brands that were poorly made and/ or didn't fit. Love Ruffwear.

I would recomend the chillcoat. Jasper is a short haired dog but he just hates the heat. He love his chillcoat!

Thank you so much for making it!

I recently learned that my dog suffers from a collapsing trachea. Because of that, he cannot over exert himself especially in the heat. This cooling coat keeps me from being worried. He's able to still enjoy himself -even more so than before- because this coat is keeping him nice and cool!

I recently purchased both the Swamp Cooler Dog Vest and Hurtta Cooling Coat. Both are made of similar materials and work in the same way. The Ruffwear Vest is smaller and fitted whereas the Hurtta has extended hind flaps and chest flaps. I have a 70lb Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican Hairless). The Ruffwear Cooling Vest worked fabulously. Since my dog is hairless, it was easy to feel how well the vest worked. Placing my hand on exposed skin than on skin under the vest, the skin under the vest was considerably cooler - yet dry. The Hurtta Coat covered much more of the dog but the chest strap isn't reinforced and it tore from the material during the first use. I did stitch it back together and kept the coat for "hotter days".

I live in San Diego's east county where summers are hot. My little Pom loves hiking and the vest really makes a huge difference. I recently adopted a little friend for Kiki her new sister needed a vest of her own.
