Percorten-V is effective in replacing the mineralocorticoid deficit in dogs suffering from primary hypoadrenocorticism (Canine Addison's Disease).

Side Effects

Possible side effects may include excessive thirst, excessive appetite, excessive urination, dull or dry haircoat, weight gain, panting, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, muscle wasting, depression, lethargy, aggressiveness. If symptoms persist or become troublesome, contact your veterinarian. Since this medication suppresses your pet's immune system, there may be an increase in risk of infection. Contact your veterinarian if your pet shows any signs of fever.

Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian. The safety of this medication has not been evaluated in pregnant, breeding, or nursing animals. Do not discontinue this medication abruptly without consulting your veterinarian.

Usage

Percorten-V should be injected as directed by your veterinarian. Typically this medication may be given intramuscularly or subcutaneously and dosage varies by patient.  Injectable medications require needles and syringes.  Those items are purchased separately.  Please ask your veterinarian for a recommendation for the correct needle/syringe sizes for your pet.

Cautions

Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication or supplements you are giving your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may be anticipated. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. The safety of this medication has not been evaluated in pregnant, breeding, or nursing animals. Do not discontinue this medication abruptly without consulting your veterinarian.

Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.
