Vitamin B-12 Injection (cyanocobalamin) is used to treat vitamin B-12 deficiency in animals with pernicious anemia and other conditions.

Vitamin B-12 Injection is a man-made form of vitamin B-12. Vitamin B-12 is important for growth, cell reproduction, blood formation, and protein and tissue synthesis.

Side effects may include swelling, rapid weight gain; diarrhea; or itching or mild rash.

Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.

Vitamin B-12 Injection should be given to your pet as directed by your veterinarian.  Injectable medications require needles and syringes.  Those items are purchased separately.  Please ask your veterinarian for a recommendation for the correct needle/syringe sizes for your pet.

This medication does not have an FDA approved indication for use in animals, but it is a  common and acceptable practice for veterinarians to prescribe this human medication for use in animals.

Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely.

Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; widespread hives and itching.
