Pet Dental Health Tricks That Aren't Drudgery

main image

See my pretty teef?

Beautiful teeth in dogs aren't just for looks; it's also an indicator of a dog's age and overall health. Being the informed dog owner that you are, you probably already know that!

I don't know about you, but even my best efforts to keep up on my pet's dental care can fall short with my busy schedule. So anytime we can find something that our dogs can do for themselves and even have fun doing it, I'm all for it!

Toys for Teeth

Finding the perfect toy that also manages to clean your dog's teeth can be tricky. Here are some suggestions to tailor your selection to your type of dog.

Small Dog Breeds

Small dogs, in particular, are prone to dental disease. This is often because they are less likely to put a lot of effort into chewing, but would rather focus on getting pets as your lapdog. Their smaller mouths may not have the power to really scrub at their tiny teeth surfaces.

Therefore, for tiny breeds like the Maltese, Toy Poodles, and Pomeranians, try some of our little crocheted toys. These cute and cleverly-designed toys are made with cotton thread with tiny openings for little teeth to pass through and be flossed. They're adorable and sure to be a favorite for chasing and carrying around.

Clever Dog Toys that Clean Teeth

For smart dogs that enjoy a challenge, not only can you engage their minds, but you can also scrub their teeth! Many of our Busy Buddy dog toys also have several dental cleaning components. The Busy Buddy Bristle Bone even has brushes built in that they will attack with fervor while trying to get to the gnawhide treats! These long-lasting toys get a thumbs up from both our staff and our customers!

Rope Toys

Rope toys are great for cleaning the teeth of most breeds. They come in an amazing array of styles and sizes to suit any dog.

Loofah Toys

Just like we humans use loofahs to clean and slough off dry skin, loofahs are a natural choice to for dogs to make chew toys out of for cleaning their teeth. See our collection of Loofah Dog Toys!

Food and Water Additives

We carry a few products for pets for use between dental cleanings to help maintain oral health. Some of the easiest to use are our Pet Naturals Oral Health for Dogs and cats. Simply sprinkle a teaspoon of this oral health supplement on your pet's food to prevent plaque formation.

Another option is our Tropiclean Fresh Breath Pet Water Additive. People are surprised how well this product works so quickly at helping their dog's and cat's breath. This is a great option for elderly pets who turn up their noses at chew toys, yet are the most in need of dental care. I'm definitely trying this product.
