Top 10 Holiday Sweaters for Your Pet!

main image
What are the holidays without the classic, slightly silly sweaters? Actually, my teenage daughter specifically goes to thrift stores for "ugly" sweaters to complete her holiday look. The tackier the better! I wouldn't go so far as to say ours are tacky, but putting a dog or even a cat in a sweater is sure to make a statement and the season toasty and bright!

Read on to see our Top 10 Sweaters for the Holidays!

electric-knit-dog-sweater-dress-east-side-collection-110: Electric Knit Dog Sweater/Sweater Dress I thought the photo Laurie submitted on our featured photo was a fitting tribute to her long-lived dogs: "This is this year's Christmas photo with my "fur babies" sporting their Electric Knits!!! Pumpkin is celebrating her 4th Christmas; FlapJack is celebrating his 17th Christmas and Monte is celebrating his 14th Christmas." Laurie was creative pairing the sweaters with ornaments for a festive look that looks festive for a Christmas card, but will also look great and keep her dogs warm all winter long.

9: Snowflake Snuggler in Pink and Blue  This sweater has nice snowflake embroidery, a leash opening at the collar, and will be suitable through the holidays and all through the colder months.

8: Fritzy's Fair Isle Sweater - Available in Winter Pear, Dusty Grape, and Orange Spice. These are adorable sweaters that are perfect for coordinating 3 dogs!

7: Zack & Zoey Holiday Penguin Sweater. This sweater has a cute penguin with plush features that wears a hat and scarf. This easy-fit design has a turndown turtleneck and a high-cut stay dry belly! Features leg straps for a secure fit. Great for any holiday party or just staying cozy by the fire!

6: Handmade Pink Flower Wool Sweater Dress This dress reminds us of saltwater taffy. And let's face it, it just makes people smile! Handmade wool dog sweaters from Chilly Dog are made with hand knit organic wool and all natural plant dyes, perfect for the eco-conscious pet owner. This pink sweater with collar is also made following the Fair Trade guidelines and is knitted by Quechan Indian Artisans.

5: Zack & Zoey Arctic Reindeer Sweater This is a Nordic-inspired knit that will look wonderful all winter long! Available in red and in navy.

4: Mohawk Hooded Sweater by NY Dog We love the rebel look for slightly naughty pups. But they are sure to still be on Santa's "nice" list in this adorable sweater! Perfect for that one-of-a-kind dog!

3: Handmade Little Monster Wool Sweater This is another sweater that just makes people smile. And even though this might be perfect for your little monster, we promise that it won't falsely advertise to Santa as to your pup's behavior! It's adorable in classic Christmas colors that will keep your pet looking cute and feeling toasty all season long!

handmade-little-monster-wool-dog-sweater-22: Let it Snow Sweater by Fab Dog We are probably being influenced to pick this sweater since there is a decidedly poor amount of snow around here in Colorado. So we are hoping that if enough pups pick this sweater up and do a little snow dance in the backyard while doing their duty, we just might be able to turn the weather patterns around. What do you say?

1: Handmade Christmas Elf Wool Sweater This sweater has all of the required elements to making a really great holiday sweater, according to my daughter. This features fine craftsmanship, and is epic in style points with the red pom poms embellishing the elf-style collar, the red, green, and white stripes. This is a sweater that says "notice me, Santa!" And he will, and so will your guests. And your dog will notice the lovely warmth this hand-knit sweater offers too!

What's your favorite sweater or holiday look for your pet?

I haven't gone as far as putting sweaters on my dogs, bird, or turtle, but I did buy a darling hoodie jacket from you for my Schnoodle two Christmases ago. Unfortunately, we had a very mild winter last year and she didn't get to wear it. The last thing the Shelties need is more fur or layers, but our Airedale might be a candidate if he needs a haircut and it's a freezy winter this year. After wearing a cone on his head for two weeks after surgery, he probably wouldn't object to wearing a cozy sweater all that much.

True, many dogs don't need sweaters. I'm glad you've considered your dogs' needs over fashion! But you're right, after surgery, it's tougher to keep warm, and a sweater can offer a measure of support and protection for wounds.
