How To Measure Your Dog's Paws!
Proper footwear fit is essential to a fun day out (or in). Here's how to measure your pet's paws...
With your pet's paw on the ground, measure from the tip of the claws (those have to fit inside the shoe too) to the back of where the paw touches the ground, which is just behind the pad.
While your pet's paw is still on the ground, measure from side to side at the widest point of your pet's paw, which is usually near the base of the toes.
Handy Tip: Try having your pet step on a piece of paper, then trace around the paw. Then, while your pet is off eating your houseplants or terrorizing the neighborhood, you can measure the traced outline in peace.
How To Measure Your Dog!
I have worked with the finest furry tailors in the world, and am here to share my bounty of knowledge. Here's how to measure your pet...
Measure from the base of the tail (where it connects to the hindquarters) up to where the collar typically sits at the base of the neck, then follow up with a generous back scratch.
This is measured by giving your pet a
hug, during which you measure the entire circumference (all the way around) at the widest point of your pet's chest. This is typically right behind the front legs.
First, plenty of kisses. Then, measure the neck's circumference
(the distance around it) at the point where the collar sits.
Important Sizing Note: The given measurements are the dimensions of the actual product, not of the pet they fit. After measuring your pet, make sure all measurements fit within the following dimensions (with a little room to spare in the chest and neck).

The proportions of dogs are much more varied than are humans. Thus, its a challenge to find dog clothing that fits a particular dog. I have a 12 pound Shitsu-Poodle. The Large Size Puppia Mountaineer II Fleece Dog Vest is a great fit. Comparing my dog's measurements versus the Puppia size chart indicated that Large Size should fit. It fit exactly as expected. Per the size chart it should fit a bit snug in the neck and that's exactly how the neck opening does fit. A thumb can readily pass around the neck hole, so we will keep the Large Size.
For small dogs, I don't believe that winter clothing should have "sleeves" and pant legs. Winter coat material is too stiff for a small dog's strength. Thus, they cannot freely move about. That's why I chose a vest for my dog, even though we live in lethally cold Minnesota. Also, its not feasible for a small dog breed to ever be comfortable when the temperature is -20F, regardless of the clothing. A vest is the most practical.

The harness on this coat is so convenient you no longer have to try to find the ring through a hole before walks. It also zips on top which makes getting it in so easy. The quality of the zipper and materials is top notch. In fact the only thing I did not love was that it’s not warm enough for NY winters. If you live is a state with less severe winters however this will be perfect and it looks great.
