Prescription Item

PREVICOX is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for pain management associated with canine osteoarthritis. Each chewable tablet contains 57 mg of firocoxib.

For

Dogs (weighing at least 12.5 lbs)

Benefits

PREVICOX is formulated especially to alleviate the pain and inflammation of arthritis in dogs by inhibiting COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2), which helps generate chemicals that are responsible for pain and inflammation, while sparing COX-1 (cyclooxygenase-1), which helps maintain normal bodily functions. PREVICOX offers fast pain relief in a convenient, once-a-day flavored tablet. In field studies with dogs as old as 19 years, Previcox provided pain relief for osteoarthritis with fewer gastrointestinal problems.

Active Ingredients

firocoxib

Side Effects

Possible side effects may include mild stomach upset, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and/or drowsiness. Notify your veterinarian if side effects appear and remain troublesome.

Other side effects may occur, if you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.

Usage

PREVICOX should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian.

Cautions

Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. The following drugs can potentially interact with firocoxib: nsaids, aspirin, ACE inhibitors, corticosteroids, digoxin, fluconazole, furosemide, sulfonamides, oral anticoagulants, and methotrexate. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.

Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.
