The Merrick pet food company began over 30 years ago in Garth Merrick’s family kitchen in Hereford, Texas. That’s when Garth began home-cooking food for his beloved dog, Gracie, to make sure she was eating the most wholesome and nutritious food possible.

Real Whole Foods and Higher Quality Ingredients. There are zero byproducts in Merrick pet food recipes. Not only are there no byproducts, but there are also no unnamed meat sources. There is no wheat, corn, soy, or added sugar in any of their foods. It's also easy to see their quality ingredients as they list the first five ingredients right on the front of the bag. This is important since pet food ingredients are required to be listed in the order of their prominence. Other helpful information that is found on the bag front is additional important ingredients including glucosamine and chondroitin for joint health, omegas, etc. 

Made in the USA, Texas: Merrick pet foods and treats are made in Texas in their own kitchens. They don't outsource their manufacturing and all of their ingredients are from the USA except for two - lamb which comes from New Zealand, and one essential amino acid called Taurine which comes from Germany. This ensures they have the ultimate quality control in all of their pet foods and treats. 

Other helpful information

The majority of Merrick pet foods are All-Lifestage Formulas, which means you don't have to have multiple bags of food if you have a multi-age pack. They do offer some specialized formulas for people who prefer an age-specific recipe such as Puppy or Senior formulas.
