You might see a family all decked out in matching Star Wars outfits, or you might find a group of friends dressed up as their favorite football team. When dogs are put into the mix, the possibilities are endless. If you’re planning to get creative with your dog this year, and you’re a fan of Disney, it’s easier than ever to create that perfect costume scheme you’ve been hoping to put together since you adopted your dog. Classic Disney Characters
When you gather your friends or family members together to plan your costume scheme, you might consider classic Disney characters. With costumes for dogs that include Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and other classics, everyone can get in on the action. Take personalities and physical traits into consideration as you assign out all the costumes. For example, if you have one friend who’s particularly tall or clumsy, Goofy might be the perfect costume. If your pup is a girl, and she acts like a little princess, Minnie Mouse is probably the costume you’ll want to put her in.
Movie-Specific Costumes
Disney has made dozens of feature films, making it easy to find a set of costumes the entire family can get into. If you’re looking for a movie-specific costume scheme, you might start with your favorite animated Disney movie. For example, Beauty and the Beast is one that is a favorite among many, and if you’re dressing up your little pooch, he’d look more like Beast in a classy costume than any human would. If you’ve got two dogs, you could dress the second dog as Belle . To complete the theme, you and your human family members could be Lumiere, Cogsworth, Chip, Gaston and some of the other side characters.
With Disney owning the Star Wars franchise now, you might decide to dress up as Star Wars characters as well. With Han Solo dog costumes, Princess Leia costumes, Chewbacca dog costumes, Dewback costumes, Jedi robes and a variety of others, you can turn your dog into one of your favorite characters. If little Fluffy has the perfect Ewok face, you might choose that as his costume, and you could also go with R2-D2 or BB8 as well. Whatever your dog wears, your human friends can be the other characters.
Disney Princesses
If your dog is a little princess, you might as well get her in full character for Halloween. With multiple dogs, or if you’re going to be having a puppy Halloween party, you can really get into the princess spirit. Currently, you have the choice of Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel and Jasmine, and there are options for both little and big dogs as well. Many of these costumes come with wigs, so you’ll need to be sure your own pup is OK with something extra on her head, but it can get really entertaining when she is in full costume and acting like a little princess.
The Less Is More Approach
Some dogs won’t last a minute with a costume on and that’s OK! If your pooch isn’t comfortable in his costume, but he has worn shirts and felt fine about it in the past, you might consider something that feels like a regular shirt. The Incredibles dog costume fits like a shirt, and if your dog doesn’t particularly love the mask, he can still get away with looking just like Dash or Mr. Incredible. If you think your furry family member will do OK with something on her head, you could simply go with something such as the Minnie Mouse headpiece. The costume doesn’t have to be extremely extravagant to get your dog some Disney-loving attention.
Putting Safety as a Top Priority
Regardless of which Disney characters you choose to dress up as, it’s always important to have safety as your top priority. Sure it would be cute to have your little pooch in a long princess costume, but is she going to trip over it and slide around all night? Maybe the Han Solo costume would look better with your kid’s light saber attached, but is that safe for your dog to run around with? This is why there are costumes made specifically for dogs. The lengths and the fit of the costumes are just right for specific sizes of dogs so your furry family member can stay safe and enjoy Halloween with your family.
It’s also important you emphasize lights and reflectors. While a reflective dog vest may take away from the cute factor of your dog’s costume, it might be necessary when you are out trick-or-treating or at an outdoor party. You can always remove it when you are inside or when you’re taking photos.
