Amlodipine Tabs are indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocking agent which relaxes the arterial muscles to help decrease blood pressure, making it easier for the heart to pump. Amlodipine must be taken regularly for it to be effective.

Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure.

Side effects tend to be mild and may include loss of appetite, low blood pressure and weight loss.

Other side effects may occur and may be based on the dose prescribed. In some cases, a symptom may be an indication of a change in your pet's medical condition. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.

Amlodipine should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Do not stop giving the medication unless advised by your veterinarian. Try to give this medication at about the same time each day.

This medication does not have an FDA approved indication for use in animals, but it is a common and acceptable practice for veterinarians to prescribe this human medication for use in animals.

Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication or supplements you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. Do not use in breeding, pregnant, or nursing females. The following medications when given with amlodipine may cause abnormally low blood pressure: diuretics, beta-blockers, other vasodilators or other agents that may reduce blood pressure. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.

Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.
